Vines

The Marlborough region is the largest wine-growing region of New Zealand, because there is the most sunshine hours here. But it is not only vineyards but also a fjord area, die Marlborough Sounds. From Nelson we drove to Havelock, the starting point of the 35-kilometer Queen Charlotte Drive on the eponymous Queen Charlotte Sound. The road snaked along the water to Picton, the main port of the South Island. Here a lot of boats and also a huge ferry lay in the harbor. We looked at the city of, but that did not last long, for Picton is with its 4000 inhabitants very manageable. So we drove to a campsite near and went the next morning on the way to Blenheim and Renwick. These two places are surrounded by many wineries.
On a cozy campsite at a small idyllic river with ducks and tame eels in the countryside, we found a nice spot for the next two nights. We are organized in Bike2Wine two bicycles to make for the following day at a tour of the wineries. First, we tried it on a tandem, but we quickly abandoned and decided but for two mountain bikes. Although it was a bit windy but the sun was shining and we cycled through the vines for the first winery, where we sampled equal to 6 different wines. A good start to the day! 😉 Insgesamt besuchten wir 4 Weingüter. How many wines we tasted at the end of the day had, but we can not say more.
After that, it still went into a small brewery, where we got a taste of New Zealand beer. Nothing against New Zealand brewing, but the German beer tastes us better! Finally, we tried yet tasty Schoki in a Scholokadenfabrik and biked with well-filled bellies back to the campsite.
