3 monks

We arrived at Chiang Khong after about 5 hours bus ride with a change in Chiang Rai. Chiang Khong is a small town at Mekong and also border crossing to Laos. Many backpackers make here only a brief stopover on their way to Laos. There is a port, where huge trucks on pretty old and decrepit looking ferries loaded, to bring them across the Mekong to Laos. Passengers went over by long-tail boats.

Much to see is not here, the place has a main street, a small waterfront, a couple of shops and small restaurants. We have spent much time on our terrace with view to the Mekong. With the bikecycle we explored the area a bit. Our "host mom" Saifon from "Baan Pak Pon Guesthouse" is very friendly and helpful. Since we found no bananas as food for our journey, she has taken me on her moped and seached for some small fruit stalls until we finally get bananas. She also bought a few rice cakes and gave us everything for free.

After 38 days we will leave Thailand tomorrow morning. By boat we cross the Mekong to Laos and from there by boat to our next destination. We are excited about what's waiting for us in Laos ...
